As an avid koi hobbyist for the last 20 years, I've had my share of success and utter failures, learning from each along the way. There is no one size fits all when it comes to koi and continuing education has been vital to my journey and growth in the community. It's easy to appreciate these fish on the surface level; to see the beauty in their wide range of colors, shapes and sizes. They foster a sense of serenity to most onlookers, offering a deepset feeling that natural harmony is within reach. That feeling is a rare gift in the chaos of the modern world, and in large part why I've spent the past two decades learning all that I can about these fish: how to provide a balanced environment optimal for their health, familiarizing myself with their behavior so that I can predict their needs, understanding the intricate markings that make each individual koi so special.
